Their traditional techniques and natural remedies are truly something to marvel at. Every Native American tribe has its own unique approach. The Cherokee, a tribe indigenous to the Southeastern United States, believed that the “Creator” gave them the gift of being able to understand and preserve medicinal herbs. A number of different herbs and plants can be used as medicine, as they once were.

Here are nine plants that the Cherokee tribe used to cure a variety of different symptoms:

1. Big Stretch (Wild Ginger)

Mild tea made from the wild ginger plant was believed to help stimulate the digestion process. The Cherokee believed it could also treat stomach problems, colic and even intestinal gas. Another Native American tribe, known as The Meskwaki, used pulverized wild ginger stems to treat ear infections.

2. Hummingbird Blossom (Buck Brush)

Hummingbird blossom was used to treat a wide variety of conditions. Traditionally, it was used as a diuretic to stimulate kidney function, but it was also used to treat inflamed tonsils or lymph nodes and other oral issues, as well as menstrual bleeding.

Modern day laboratory research has indicated that hummingbird blossom is great for treating lymphatic blockages and hypertension.

3.Wild Mint

Mint remains popular today as a tasty herbal tea that’s also packed with antioxidants. The Cherokee used mint to assist with digestion, and also ground the leaves up to create ointments or for use in cold compresses. Mint was also added to baths to help relieve itchy skin.

4. Blackberry

These berries are loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that help to support good health. In addition to the delicious berries, a tea can also be made from the root of the plant, which is said to help decrease swelling in the joints and bodily tissues. Chewing on the leaves of the blackberry plant is also said to help relieve bleeding gums.

5. Cattail

Cattails have been regarded as a great preventive medicine and, barring the seed heads and mature leaves, is digested fairly easily. Boiled and mashed cattails were often used to create a paste to treat burns and other sores. Seed down, or the fluff from the seed blooms, was also used to help prevent skin irritations for infants.

6. Sumac

Sumac is touted as having many different uses. The bark, for example, can be made into a mild decoction to help soothe diarrhea. Tea made from sumac leaves is also said to help reduce fevers. There are many types of sumac, so one must be careful not to choose poison sumac.

7. Wild Rose

Tea made from wild rose hips was traditionally used to stimulate kidney function and bladder function. A rose petal infusion can also be used to help relieve sore throats; the petals can also be used to make a tasty jam. The roots of the wild rose plant can also be made into a mild decoction for diarrhea.

8. Mullein

According to The Cherokee, this herb can be used to help treat asthma and clear away chest congestion. Inhaling smoke from the burning leaves and roots is said to actually help open your airways and calm your lungs. Decoctions made from mullein can be used for foot soaks to relieve pain and inflammation. Flowers from the mullein plant were also used to make a tea with a mild sedative effect.

9. Yarrow

The crushed-up leaves of this well-known plant were traditionally used to encourage blood clotting. The crushed leaves were applied topically to wounds to help stop the bleeding. Yarrow juice, mixed with fresh water, was also said to help stop intestinal bleeding.

Tea made from yarrow leaves is said to boost digestion and assist with kidney and gallbladder issues.

Herbal medicine is truly nature’s medicine, and there is so much more we have to learn about it, especially from other cultures. Stay informed about more strategies for preventing disease at Prevention.news.

Small-scale charity movement sweeping the nation with mini food pantries being hosted in people’s yards /homesteading/2017-01-18-small-scale-charity-movement-sweeping-the-nation-with-mini-food-pantries-being-hosted-in-peoples-yards /homesteading/2017-01-18-small-scale-charity-movement-sweeping-the-nation-with-mini-food-pantries-being-hosted-in-peoples-yards#respond Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 http://162.244.66.231/homesteading/2017-01-18-small-scale-charity-movement-sweeping-the-nation-with-mini-food-pantries-being-hosted-in-peoples-yards The community food bank concept is taking a whole new form in many American towns, where a growing number of families are opting to set up tiny food pantries on their front lawns offering free food and personal goods to folks in need.

Similar in appearance to those little library boxes that offer books to local residents based on the honor system, these mini food pantries are little more than cabinets on posts filled with canned food, bread, toothbrushes, diapers, and other essentials — all accessible without a key, and fully anonymous in nature.

Said to be started by Jessica McClard of northwest Arkansas, the “little free pantry” movement of yard-based food pantries has already spread thousands of miles to states like Oklahoma, Florida, Kentucky, Indiana, and Minnesota, where generous people with the means to do so are helping their communities in a small but powerful way. (RELATED: Learn how to grow your own food at home and help contribute to the needs of your local community)

Maggie Ballard, whose “blessing box,” as she calls it, currently sits on the front lawn of her Wichita, Kansas, home explained to NPR, “I felt like this is something that I could do — something small that you know, would benefit so many people so long as the word got out about it.”

Ballard’s roughly two-feet-wide, bright orange box with a window on the front of it dons a note with simple instructions as to how it works: “Take a blessing when you need one. Leave blessing when you can.”

“My son is six years old, so it gives him a little chore to kind of watch it and see what comes and goes and who comes and goes, and maybe learn a little lesson from it,” she added, noting that she and her son check on the box every day to make sure it’s fully stocked. (RELATED: Learn more about fresh food news at Fresh.news)

Tiny food pantries are popular everywhere, showing the tremendous need for food

In the beginning, Ballard stocked all the food and goods herself — and people come by, mostly at night, every single day to partake of it. But now that the concept has gained more notoriety, including throughout her local community, Ballard says many of her friends and neighbors regularly contribute.

Stacey Schwanke, for instance, has stopped by several times to stock Ballard’s pantry box since it first went up back in October. Ballard’s friends actually made the box for her after hearing about the concept via social media, and seeing that she had found one that she liked on Facebook.

“The products that are stocked are put directly inside the pantry and turnover is about 30 to 45 minutes,” McClard told NPR, explaining that her pantry box is used quite frequently. “The frequency of the turnover and the fact that other sites in town are also turning over that frequently, it suggests to me that the need is tremendous.”

Most of the people using the pantry boxes seem to come at night, McClard and others say, presumably to remain anonymous and not draw attention to themselves. And the more they go up, the more people seem to use them, demonstrating a powerful community need for the concept all throughout the U.S.

While the pantry boxes have been primarily popping up at private residences and near churches and other religious institutions, many businesses are also jumping on board as employees indicate a desire to serve those in need throughout their local communities.

“We’re all short on time and money,” says McClard, “and this is a way that people can feel like they are making a difference.”

Dandelion root, a cancer cell killer, has a long history as medicine /homesteading/2017-01-18-dandelion-root-a-cancer-cell-killer-has-a-long-history-as-medicine /homesteading/2017-01-18-dandelion-root-a-cancer-cell-killer-has-a-long-history-as-medicine#respond Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 http://162.244.66.231/homesteading/2017-01-18-dandelion-root-a-cancer-cell-killer-has-a-long-history-as-medicine The roots, leaves and flowers of the dandelion plant are a potent and healthy herbal medicine, although folks might think those yellow dots popping up in their landscape are just nuisance weeds. Not so, as reported by Reset.me, who emphasizes that the botanical name for dandelion – Taraxacum officinal – aptly describes its medicinal potential. Taraxacum translates into an “inflammation curative.” Officinal means that the lowly dandelion is revered as a bona fide, official medicinal plant. The use of the dandelion plant as a healing agent “predates written records,” but it is understood that the Greeks and the Chinese used dandelion compounds to aid in digestion, and as a liver tonic and diuretic. (RELATED: Learn more about natural remedies at Remedies.news)

Traditional herbalists, both in the East and the West, have utilized the properties of the dandelion for liver support and as a blood purifier. It is this blood purifying action that intrigued Canadian researchers at the University of Windsor to pursue whether dandelion roots could be effective for individuals suffering from end stage blood cancer. The team experimented by applying dandelion root extract into petri dishes on “blood drawn from a leukemia patient and lab rats.” They discovered that the “dandelion root extract was effective in inducing apoptosis, or cell suicide, in tumor cells, while leaving healthy cells alone.”

This remarkable outcome garnered approval to test their dandelion root protocol on thirty Canadian cancer patients. It is the first time in Canada that a natural extract has been approved for utilization in a clinical trial. The lead researcher is Dr. Siyaram Pandey, a biochemistry professor at Windsor, who discovered the power of dandelions from an oncologist whose own patients had had enough chemotherapy and chose to drink dandelion tea instead – and lived!  Dr. Pandey shares his unusual introduction to dandelions, a simple explanation of what cancer is, and some of his initial thoughts about the clinical trial in this Tedx  presentation:

Each body is unique and all cancer treatment decisions are personal and made only after sound deliberation. A combination of clean food, nutritional and immune building modalities – among many other alternative medicine treatments – may be required to ultimately win an individual’s battle against cancer. Yet it is generally agreed that chemotherapy is a shotgun blast of toxicity that kills cells indiscriminately and cripples the immune system. Your backyard dandelion’s roots specifically kill only the cancerous cells and enhances the immune system. Dandelions are not toxic, and they also offer a bevy of vitamins and minerals, including calcium, magnesium, potassium and Vitamin A, K, B6 and B12.

Herbalists who live in America are not allowed to treat cancer patients, says author and internationally traveled herbalist Demetria Clark, who has taught thousands through her Heart of Herbs Herbal School. Dandelion is used enthusiastically by Clark as a “supportive therapy” with whatever cancer protocol her client has chosen. If a client has chosen chemotherapy, Clark says that dandelion will “support the liver and help the body detoxify.”  She also says that dandelion leaves put into smoothies can help with mouth sores and nausea. The dandelion can boost one’s appetite and also “get the digestive juices flowing.”  Clark believes that the available empirical evidence clearly shows that the dandelion “can enhances the immune system and supports the liver and kidneys with no toxicity and a high amount of nutrition.”  She encourages children and pregnant women to use the benefits available from the simple, but profound, dandelion.

Have you ever wondered why are there so many dandelions? Perhaps nature is trying to give all of us a gentle yellow immune boost.

Obama has placed more land and water under federal control than any other president in history /homesteading/2017-01-11-obama-has-placed-more-land-and-water-under-federal-control-than-any-other-president-in-history /homesteading/2017-01-11-obama-has-placed-more-land-and-water-under-federal-control-than-any-other-president-in-history#respond Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 http://162.244.66.231/homesteading/2017-01-11-obama-has-placed-more-land-and-water-under-federal-control-than-any-other-president-in-history In what appears to be a thinly-veiled slap in the face to President-Elect Donald Trump, who’s made it clear that he supports expanded domestic energy production, outgoing President Barack Obama has once again decided to seize land in the United States and place it under the jurisdiction of the federal government, effectively rendering it off-limits to any and all human activity.

Taking advantage of a little-known law passed by former President Theodore Roosevelt back in 1906, Obama has officially declared 1.5 million acres of U.S. land, most of which is located in the state of Utah, as “national monuments.” By doing this, said land will be closed of to any sort of human expansion, including for development, farming, or energy use.

Reports indicate that the 1.3 million acres of land in Utah has been declared as the “Bears Ears Monument” in honor of Native American tribes and other conservationist groups that claim it to be sacred. Obama has also claimed another 300,000 acres of land in Clark County, Nevada, declaring it to be the “Gold Butte National Monument” for many of the same reasons.

Despite bipartisan opposition from Utah’s state legislature, which vehemently opposed this unprecedented land grab, Obama went through it anyway, presumably to stifle potential efforts by the incoming administration to utilize these geographical locales for domestic energy production — even when doing so would help decrease U.S. dependence on foreign oil and other forms of energy.

“It’s one of the biggest land grabs in the history of the United States, and it was done as this midnight monument in the waning hours of the Obama administration,” said Utah congressman Jason Chaffetz during a recent interview with Fox News.

Will a Trump administration be able to restore control of land back to states? House Republicans are hopeful

There have been many instances during Obama’s eight years in the Oval Office when the controversial president decided to seize land for federal purposes. Since his first inauguration, Obama has collectively seized more than half a billion acres of land and water in the federal interest, utilizing the so-called “Antiquities Act of 1906,” the law that allowed him to do so, a whopping 29 times.

In 2016 alone, Obama claimed more than 260 million acres as federally-protected space, including a 100-million-acre piece of land in Alaska that’s roughly equivalent in size to the entire state of New Mexico. Obama has also utilized the Antiquities Act of 1906 more times than any other president since it first became law, his executive land grabs accounting for some 20 percent of all such land grabs combined.

“In the eight years he’s been in office, President Obama has seized more than 553 million acres of land and water (roughly 865,000 square miles) and placed it under federal ownership and control — enough square mileage to cover the entire state of Texas more than three times over,” writes Brittany Hughes for MRCTV.com.

“In fact, the self-aggrandizing conservationist-in-chief has placed more land and coastal areas under federal control than any other president in history, shutting off millions of miles of land to energy production or human settlement, along with shifting it outside the scope of local and state jurisdictions.”

House Republicans are already moving forward with trying to reverse these land grabs and restore control of the seized lands back to state and local jurisdictions. But this may not be possible, some reports indicate, as such reversals may not be lawful. At the same time, Obama’s use of the Antiquities Act of 1906 to seize land for non-emergency political purposes may, in and of itself, not have been lawful in the first place.

Obama signs massive land grab in Nevada and Utah near Bundy ranch, setting up another potential clash as he leaves office /homesteading/2017-01-09-obama-signs-massive-land-grab-in-nevada-and-utah-near-bundy-ranch-setting-up-another-potential-clash-as-he-leaves-office /homesteading/2017-01-09-obama-signs-massive-land-grab-in-nevada-and-utah-near-bundy-ranch-setting-up-another-potential-clash-as-he-leaves-office#respond Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 http://162.244.66.231/homesteading/2017-01-09-obama-signs-massive-land-grab-in-nevada-and-utah-near-bundy-ranch-setting-up-another-potential-clash-as-he-leaves-office If you haven’t figured out by now that President Obama is doing all he can to sabotage and trip up President-elect Donald J. Trump before he takes office, then you’re not paying attention. As time runs out on his presidency, he is doing everything he can to make Trump’s first years in office as chaotic and treacherous as possible.

To wit, Obama just signed an executive order designating a massive amount of land in Nevada and Utah as the Golden Butte National Monument—a portion of which just happens to be near lands owned and operated by Cliven Bundy, who, along with supporters, engaged in an armed standoff with Bureau of Land Management personnel just a few years ago over long-claimed grazing rights for Bundy’s cattle. And the grab does include land that the Bundy’s have used to graze their cattle.

Is Obama exacting some payback, while at the same time attempting to provoke an armed incident which he would certainly use for his own political advantage while disrupting the incoming Trump administration? It sure looks that way.

As reported by Intellihub, the massive new land grab includes the very site of the Bundy Ranch standoff, in addition to land very close to the Bundy Ranch itself. “With this move Obama has possibly triggered another armed standoff while also heading off any moves set to be made by incoming President Donald Trump,” the site reported.

Administration says environment, Native Americans prompted action but, as usual, that’s not true

According to a fact sheet published by the White House, Obama’s order designates “two new national monuments, protecting sacred sites, spectacular scenery, and important natural and cultural resources in the desert landscapes of southeastern Utah and southern Nevada. The creation of the Bears Ears National Monument in Utah and the Gold Butte National Monument in Nevada follow years of robust public input from tribes, local elected officials, and diverse stakeholders, and draws from legislation introduced in Congress.”

The fact sheet also acknowledged that the radical Obama has also taken away more land from states and the people than any previous president, as if that’s something to be proud of. Add to that the fact that the federal government already owned more than 85 percent of all lands in Nevada, while owning a sizeable portion of Utah’s land as well.

Intellihub reported that at present, it’s difficult to know actually how much land Obama just grabbed, under the phony guise of “environmental protection” and deference to “Native American tribes.”

In an interview, Jason Vantatenhove, national media director for Oathkeepers and founder of Ex-Media, told Natural News there were several political implications to the grab.

“This will wind up in the political arena,” he said, adding that in reality, unlike what the White House is claiming, there are actually a number of “indigenous tribes fighting against it,” as well as local political leaders.

Vantatenhove said the administration’s lie about taking action on behalf of Native Americans to preserve their land is par for the course. He said he’s learned that over the years, having been at the first Bundy standoff as well as other citizen actions against the federal government, including the Malheur standoff in Oregon in January and, more recently, the Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota.

Follow the money?

At present, he told Natural News, there are no plans for armed militia groups to take up positions near the Bundy Ranch, and there have been no moves by federal agencies to mark off the new federal preserves.

But that could change at a moment’s notice. And he did say that some groups had put calls out to their members to prepare to move to the area.

“This Golden Butte area doesn’t include the Bundy Ranch but it does include a good portion of their grazing allotment, where the original legal conflict began” in 2014, Vantatenhove said. And that could certainly inflame the issue because the Bundy’s have invested a lot of money in the infrastructure there, including cultivating and developing water sources.

Cliven, along with sons Ryan and Ammon, remain in jail on charges stemming from the Malheur standoff.

Vantatenhove also speculated that there could be a financial reason for the land grab. He noted that the Golden Butte region contained one of the country’s largest gold reserves, and is also home to several deposits of very valuable minerals.

“Just follow the money,” he said. “You look at Malheur, it’s the same thing. It’s got one of the world’s richest deposits” of uranium, which is vital in the manufacture of nuclear energy and nuclear missiles, as well as gold, he said.

Solar power has now become the cheapest way to produce electricity /homesteading/2017-01-08-solar-power-has-now-become-the-cheapest-way-to-produce-electricity /homesteading/2017-01-08-solar-power-has-now-become-the-cheapest-way-to-produce-electricity#respond Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 http://162.244.66.231/homesteading/2017-01-08-solar-power-has-now-become-the-cheapest-way-to-produce-electricity The technology has been around for decades but because it was so expensive to produce and maintain, and because it was unreliable and short-lived, the use of solar panels to generate electricity on a large scale was not economically feasible.

But it appears as though the time for affordable, widespread solar power has come.

As reported by True Activist, new data from Bloomberg New Energy Finance that was released before Christmas indicates that solar power has now become a cheaper form of energy than wind power, while also out-competing coal and natural gas for the very first time. Now, with solar energy set to become the cheapest form of electricity production on the planet, it looks as though global energy markets are about to undergo a tectonic shift as more nations around the world shift to this completely pollution-free and renewable energy form.

In its new report called “Climatescope,” the BNEF examined conditions for investing in clean energy on and off the grid in nearly 60 emerging markets (i.e. “developing” nations). In those countries, solar power that is not government- or investiment-subsidized was actually found to beat out coal and natural gas, in addition to other forms of renewable energy production. This was not just occurring on an individual basis but on a grander scale.

Global production of solar-generated electricity setting records, lowering costs

The chart below shows how there has been a major decline in the average cost of solar power production compared to wind in some 58 emerging markets, including some of the world’s biggest economies in China, India, and Brazil. Since 2010, the BNEF found, cost of solar has declined by nearly one-third.

In 2016, True Activist reported, successive records for cheap power production were set in government auctions, where private corporations gathered to compete to receive lucrative energy production contracts. The first took place in January when a contract in India was able to produce electricity for $64 per megawatt-hour. In August, Chile broke all previous records when a deal was closed for solar electricity production for just $29.10 per megawatt-hour, or just about half the price of coal-produced power.

And the thing to keep in mind is that these two price records only represent the newest projects. Others, which will be completed by year’s end, are also set to shatter records once all of the solar projects completed in 2016 are tallied up and analyzed in the coming months.

Bloomberg says that it is very possible that the total amount of solar photovoltaic panels added around the world will pass those of wind turbines for the first time ever, as the latest BNEF projections indicate that about 70 gigawatts of new solar panel production will be finished in 2016 in comparison to wind, at about 59 gigawatts.

“However, this transformation is taking place largely in emerging markets,” True Activist reported. “Wealthier nations have not seen the same success, likely due to the fact that it is difficult for solar to compete with already existing billion-dollar fossil fuel infrastructure as well as the fossil fuel lobby’s hold on federal and state governments.”

That is especially true in the United States, where solar power generation has to go up against the massive subsidies received by the fossil fuel industry, which ostensibly drives down prices for fuels and natural gas.

Solar not picking up in the U.S.-yet

But solar power has also received subsidies from taxpayers. In fact, the Obama administration announced in August 2015 new efforts to bring renewable energy to more homes in the United States, but this came after the White House earmarked and spent more than $150 billion on what turned out to be money wasted in failed solar energy firms.

As the Gateway Pundit noted, that massive expenditure only increased total U.S. energy consumption via solar-generated electricity by about 1 percent.

“President Obama subsidized solar and other renewable energy in the United States with taxpayer money to the tune of $39 billion per year on average for the past 5 years,” the Institute for Energy Research reported. “These massive subsidies, however, have done little to increase the contribution of solar power to the electricity generation mix as solar is expected to produce just 0.6 percent of electricity generation this year. Disregarding the cost to the American taxpayer and the failed solar projects in the United States, President Obama has pledged billions of dollars to fund solar energy development in India.”

Still, as True Activist noted, subsidies to the U.S. fossil fuel industry are ongoing and much higher.

But clearly, as evidenced by solar energy production in emerging economies, there is much to be hopeful about, as solar-generated electricity appears to be on the rise globally, not in decline.

Oregon’s criminalization of rainwater collection is now complete: Saving water runoff will get you thrown in jail /homesteading/2017-01-03-oregons-criminalization-of-rainwater-collection-is-now-complete-saving-water-runoff-will-get-you-thrown-in-jail /homesteading/2017-01-03-oregons-criminalization-of-rainwater-collection-is-now-complete-saving-water-runoff-will-get-you-thrown-in-jail#respond Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 http://162.244.66.231/homesteading/2017-01-03-oregons-criminalization-of-rainwater-collection-is-now-complete-saving-water-runoff-will-get-you-thrown-in-jail Officials in Jackson County, Oregon have again shown their disrespect for private property rights, telling a local couple they must tear out a 40-year-old two-acre pond located on the property they bought two years ago.

Jackson is the same county that recently imprisoned and fined another area landowner, Gary Harrington, for illegally collecting rainwater – the county said the water contained in the lakes Harrington built on his property belonged to the Medford Water Commission, according to a 1925 state law.

Harrington vowed to fight the commission, but eventually served 90 days in jail and paid $1500 for the ponds he built on his property, before finally being forced to destroy the dams and drain the lakes.

Now Jon and Sabrina Carey are facing a similar dilemma after being told that their pond is also in violation of the law.

When the couple bought their 10-acre property two and a half years ago, the pond was a major motivation for purchasing it – in fact, the pond could be said to be its only valuable feature. “We didn’t buy it for the double-wide,” said Sabrina Carey.

Are the Careys being singled out for growing medical marijuana?

The Careys were only notified that the pond was in violation of the law after they attempted to comply with other regulations regarding medical marijuana cultivation – those who grow cannabis for medical purposes are required to identify the irrigation source.

In this case, the pond was listed as the water source, and that apparently raised a red flag with the county water authorities. The Jackson County Watermaster’s Office sent the Careys a letter stating that they not only had no rights to the water in their pond, but had no right to a pond on their property to begin with.

Never mind the fact that the pond was built 40 years ago and is clearly shown on the county records. Now the Careys are faced with reducing their property’s value drastically by removing the pond or, instead, fighting the local authorities – a choice that didn’t work out so well for Gary Harrington.

The Careys have tried to find other solutions – they have offered to reduce the size of the pond and to make the water available for fire-fighting and drought relief operations in the area.

Their lawyer, Sarah Liljefelt, has requested that the commission grant a permit to the Careys to store water for the good of the community.

From the Mail Tribune:

“In the past, the pond has been used for fire suppression and is accessible to fire trucks from Butte Falls Highway, Liljefelt stated.

“Liljefelt said the pond is an important source of water for beavers, otters, elk, deer, bear, mountain lion, bobcat, bald eagle osprey, great blue heron, snowy egret, Canada geese and the western pond turtle.”

Indeed, after forty years it would seem obvious that the pond supports wildlife and that its presence is not only valuable to the Careys, but to the community as a whole.

But the authorities aren’t buying it and are reportedly “disinclined” to accept the request.

Water Commission fears “setting a precedent” by allowing the Careys to keep their own pond

“Water Commission staff found several problems with the Careys’ request, including setting a precedent that could prompt similar requests and weaken state statutes while not meeting the definition of ‘municipal water source.’”

For most of us, the idea that the government should have the right to own what is on someone’s private property and to tell them what they can do with it is a violation of the principles this country was founded on.

But in Jackson County, the rules are different and reflect a nationwide trend towards excessive governmental control over private property and people’s lives.

As Gary Harrington said, however:

“When something is wrong, you just, as an American citizen, you have to put your foot down and say, ‘This is wrong; you just can’t take away anymore of my rights and from here on in, I’m going to fight it.’”

New sustainable agriculture development in Detroit feeds 2,000 households for free /homesteading/2016-12-27-new-sustainable-agriculture-development-in-detroit-feeds-2000-households-for-free /homesteading/2016-12-27-new-sustainable-agriculture-development-in-detroit-feeds-2000-households-for-free#respond Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 http://162.244.66.231/homesteading/2016-12-27-new-sustainable-agriculture-development-in-detroit-feeds-2000-households-for-free Urban renewal on a couple of acres in a northern section of Detroit, Michigan doesn’t mean fancy street signs, sprawling apartment complexes or bicycle lanes. It means a vision for clean food and sustainable agriculture to create a new kind of urban development called an “agrihood.” Parcels of land formerly in disarray are being dug up and retrofitted as an urban farm and more under the direction of the 501 (3) (c) group called the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative (MUFI).

As reported by Crainsdetroit.com, since 2011, when this all volunteer organization was started, 8000 volunteers have put in a total of 80,000 hours on their urban organic farm and produced over 50,000 pounds of free produce to “neighborhood residences, area churches and food pantries.”  Trueactivist.com reports that plans are also in the works to build  “3,200 square foot Community Resource Center,” which will serve as volunteer headquarters and a place to teach interested parties, especially children, about health, clean food and sustainable agriculture.  A 200 tree orchard and a health food café is also in the blueprints.

The group has attracted $4 million in corporate investment dollars from General Motors, BASF SE, Sustainable Brands for MUFI and surrounding neighborhoods in Detroit’s North End. Twenty-something MUFI co-founder Tyson Gersh explains that their mission is not just about using available land to feed families who are hungry. The money is coming, says Gersh, because the initiative is a “driving force in rethinking how urban spaces are developed.”

One problem MUFI is also tackling is urban blight, or abandoned houses and buildings in such disrepair that they need to be demolished. In one instance MUFI decided not to pay for the expense of removing the foundation. Instead they are retrofitting the basement to use it as a retention pond for crop water.  Additionally, a shipping container building will be constructed on site that will house an intern to manage the farm and do agricultural research.

The government of Detroit hasn’t quite figured out how to zone or manage future agrihoods.  Gersh was able to acquire the original property through an “adopt- a- lot” program and now they utilize “20 parcels from private owners and county foreclosure program.”  Approval for ancillary agrihood activities, or acquiring more land, means they need a “yes” from multiple government agencies like the Land Bank Authority, Detroit’s City Council and/or the Planning and Development Council. Detroitnews.com says those leaders will have this on their agenda early next year.

Prostitutes for the Presstitutes: SNOPES fact-checkers revealed to be actual whores, fraudsters and deviant left-wing fetish bloggers /homesteading/2016-12-25-snopes-fact-checkers-actual-whores-david-mikkelson-elyssa-young-presstitutes-fraud /homesteading/2016-12-25-snopes-fact-checkers-actual-whores-david-mikkelson-elyssa-young-presstitutes-fraud#respond Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 http://162.244.66.231/homesteading/2016-12-25-snopes-fact-checkers-actual-whores-david-mikkelson-elyssa-young-presstitutes-fraud The propagandizing “fact-checking” website SNOPES is being run by a whore-digger who defrauded the publisher out of $98,000 to hire prostitutes, say now-public divorce documents. One of the site’s administrators is an “escort-porn star,” and a fact-checker at SNOPES turns out to be a fetish sex blogger named “Vice Vixen domme,” explains the UK Daily Mail. The SNOPES organization, reports the paper, was founded through an elaborate fraud scheme, and its CEO married an international escort worker who traveled the globe to be banged by “VIP” clients who posted glowing online reviews of why she’s such a good choice to be hired as a “lover.”

Facebook recently announced it would rely on SNOPES to “fact-check” news articles to make sure Facebook operated with high integrity standards and full transparency. In reality, the announcement was a thinly-veiled attempt to censor independent journalism by labeling real news “fake news” with the help of all the left-wing (actual) whores and fraudsters at SNOPES.

SNOPES has frequently labeled truthful reporting on vaccines, GMOs and false flag shootings to be “false” information, siding with liberals, President Obama and the corporate establishment on nearly every topic. While claiming it is an arbiter of truth, SNOPES really functions as just another liberal propaganda mouthpiece, declaring left-wing propaganda to be “truthful” while slamming anything that contradicts liberal ideology or Big Government narratives. In this way, SNOPES mirrors Politifact, which is also run by left-wing propagandists and mind manipulators.

SNOPES, “claims to be one of the web’s ‘essential resources’ and ‘painstaking, scholarly and reliable'” says the Daily Mail, which goes on to explain:

It was founded by husband-and-wife Barbara and David Mikkelson, who used a letterhead claiming they were a non-existent society to start their research. Now they are divorced – with Barbara claiming in legal documents he embezzled $98,000 of company money and spent it on ‘himself and prostitutes’.

Snopes.com founder David Mikkelson’s new wife Elyssa Young is employed by the website as an administrator… she has worked as an escort and porn actress and despite claims [that SNOPES] is non-political ran as a Libertarian for Congress on a ‘Dump Bush’ platform. Its main ‘fact checker’ is Kimberly LaCapria, whose blog ‘ViceVixen’ says she is in touch with her ‘domme side’ and has posted on Snopes.com while smoking pot.

This montage shows the original SNOPES founders (bottom right) alongside the “Vice Vixen” escort-porn star now working there:

“The CEO of Snopes.com, the fact-checking website that was recently named as one of Facebook’s “fake news” arbiters, has been accused in divorce proceedings of appropriating company funds which he allegedly spent on expensive holidays and prostitutes,” reports Breitbart.com.

The founders’ names are David Mikkelson and Barbara Mikkelson. Via Breitbart:

Barbara has claimed that her former husband embezzled money from the company. Court documents obtained by the Daily Mail state that Barbara accused David of “raiding the corporate business Bardav bank account for his personal use and attorney fees.” Barbara also claims that David embezzled $98,000 over four years, which “he expended upon himself and the prostitutes he hired.” Barbara claims that David spent $10,000 from their business accounts between April and June of 2016 to fund an expensive 24-day holiday for him and his “girlfriend.”

Here’s a composite of online posts from Elyssa Young, the new bride of David Mikkelson, who also ran an online escort posting. She’s now an administrator at SNOPES, which gives a whole new meaning of “prostitutes” aiding “presstitutes.”

Court documents: SNOPES CEO embezzled $98,000 to hire prostitutes

This divorce document states that SNOPES CEO David Mikkelson embezzled money from the company to hire prostitutes. As shown in the document below, courtesy of UK Daily Mail:

…embezzlement of $98,000 from our company over the course of four years, which were monies he expended upon himself and the prostitutes he hired…

In addition to marrying an escort service tease, David Mikkelson thinks he should be paid $720,000 a year to run the SNOPES left-wing propaganda website. Via the UK Daily Mail:

David wanted his salary raised from $240,000 to $360,000 – arguing that this would still put him below the ‘industry standards’ and that he should be paid up to $720,000 a year.

‘As I said, based on industry standards and our revenues, my salary should be about 2x to 3x what it is now,’ he wrote in an email to Barbara in April 2016. ‘I’ll settle for $360K with the understanding that it’s to be retroactive to the start of the year.’

Banging whores with “sweet liberal shill money”

“According to divorce papers, Snopes co-founder David Mikkelson started taking all sorts of trips around the world to bang whores after that sweet liberal shill money started rolling in,” reports Zero Hedge.

“While engaging in this debauchery, Mikkelson wrote off just about everything as a business expense, embezzling a reported $98,000. The Snopes co-founder has since settled down and married a [NSFW] part time porn actress, Snopes.com administrator (spicy!), and sex worker. As in, she has a website devoted to being a whore.”

Lying for the left also turns out to be incredibly profitable. “David kept their joint baseball card collection, a savings account with $1.59 million balance, and other savings worth more than $300,000,” reports the paper.

Here’s a photo of the SNOPES founders posing as complete slobs with their obese cat perched on a couch that looks ripped out of the 1970s. David’s expression almost seems to say, “What I really wanted was some VIP pu##y and all I got was this obese creature annoying the hell out of me… plus a cat!”

SNOPES CEO marries a prostitute who has been banged by men from around the world… is that “diversity?”

SNOPES CEO Mikkelson’s new wife, Elyssa Young, has been banged by so many other paying customers that you can actually find online reviews for her “services.”

This particular review states that she “travels overseas extensively” and is a great choice “if you seek a lover.”

Hiring and marrying actual whores to “services” the presstitutes in the fakestream media is all part of SNOPES’ “diversity” program, according to the CEO. “Our editorial staff is drawn from diverse backgrounds,” Mikkelson told the UK Daily Mail.

If he means diversity in sexually transmitted diseases, he’s probably right. Can you imagine the vast array of viral populations festering in the crotches of these despicable “fact-checking” sleazebags?

Another SNOPES fact-checker turns out to be a pot-smoking fetish gear sex blogger who thinks Republicans fear females

The bizarre, twisted “diversity” of SNOPES’ staff doesn’t end there. Another SNOPES “fact-checker” named Kim LaCapria is a fetish gear sex blogger, according to Breitbart.com:

Writing under the pseudonym Vice Vixen, Snopes fact-checker Kim LaCapria regularly wrote about sex and fetish gear on her own blog, which was described as a lifestyle blog “with a specific focus on naughtiness, sin, carnal pursuits, and general hedonism and bonne vivante-ery.” LaCapria’s blog often featured reviews of sex toys. One particular review reads, “If you are doing something to your fella, and you apply this to the base of his cash-and-prizes while you carry on, he will scream and perhaps cry.” On another blog, LaCapria once described what she did on her day off, writing that she “played scrabble, smoked pot, and posted to Snopes.” She then added, “That’s what I did on my day ‘on,’ too.”

TruNews adds:

Snopes “fact-checker” Kim LaCapria claimed on her personal blog that she has “posted to Snopes” after smoking marijuana. As TheDC previously revealed, LaCapria describes herself as “openly left-leaning” and once claimed that Republicans fear “female agency.”

Official “fact-checkers” turn out to be steeped in debauchery, betrayal and deviant behavior

What’s astonishing in all this is how Facebook has already announced it will rely on SNOPES to “fact-check” news articles. Because SNOPES has long been run by left-leaning liberal propagandists, everyone knows Facebook’s “fact-checking” is really just a new form of censorship to silence independent journalism.

The fact that left-wing propagandists also happen to be actual whores, and men who marry whores, and people who reportedly embezzle money to hire whores is no surprise to anyone. The political left has descended into cabal of liars, thieves, asshats and intolerant, abusive hate-mongers who have been widely rejected by most of civil society. Revelations about SNOPES only further confirm what we’ve all known about the opinion leaders on the left for quite some time: They’re mostly sick, twisted, mentally ill sociopaths who have no ethics, no morals and no dedication to actual truth. They lie when it’s convenient; they stab each other in the back (feel the Bern!); they have weird sex fetishes (Bill Clinton’s numerous sex assaults on women); they routinely cheat on each other (Bill Clinton is not Chelsea Clinton’s father); and they LIE, LIE, LIE while proclaiming that have a divine monopoly on “truth.”

That Mark Zuckerberg would appoint these people to “fact-check” Facebook news just makes Zuckerberg a sicko and a psycho. In doing so, he’s in good company with other globalist psychopaths like Jeff Bezos, George Soros, Bill Gates and Ted Turner. Other small-time propagandists who operate with a similar degree of fraud and deception include:

Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia who launched the propaganda venture using money earned from being a porn king.

– Jon Entine, a biotech industry propagandist who was exposed by Natural News for being a violent psychopath who physically attacked his wife in front of their own child.

– James “the Amazing” Randi, who was caught on tape soliciting sex acts from young men.

James Randi, in turn, leads to David Gorski, the discredited “skeptics” blogger and cancer surgeon who has been reported to the FBI for a series of allegations involving the same cancer center where now-imprisoned cancer surgeon Dr. Farid Fata committed widespread criminal fraud by falsely diagnosing patients with cancer so he could profit from “treating” them.

All these people are leftists. What they have in common is their complete abandonment of truth, ethics and morality in their psychopathic quest for power. They are all willing to lie, cheat, steal, defame, slander or, in some cases, even murder people in order to get their way.

Oh wait, let me guess: SNOPES is going to investigate these accusations against SNOPES and proclaim that everything in this story is false. Therefore, all criticism of SNOPES is “fake news” by definition, because the authenticity of the monopolistic arbiter of news can never be questioned, you see.

The Ministry of Truth is alive and well in America, and it’s run by deviants, traitors and whores. If you believe anything you read on SNOPES, you’re a complete fool.

Ditch Facebook, Google, CNN and the WashingtonPost

All this helps explain why people are ditching Facebook, Google News, CNN, MSNBC and all the corrupt, twisted “mainstream” news sources and turning to independent, alternative news gateways.

Svalbard Global Seed Vault: 860k seed samples stored for survival in case of a global extinction event /homesteading/2016-12-06-svalbard-artic-seed-vault-860k-seed-samples-stored-for-survival-in-case-of-a-global-extinction-event /homesteading/2016-12-06-svalbard-artic-seed-vault-860k-seed-samples-stored-for-survival-in-case-of-a-global-extinction-event#respond Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 http://162.244.66.231/homesteading/2016-12-06-svalbard-artic-seed-vault-860k-seed-samples-stored-for-survival-in-case-of-a-global-extinction-event You may have heard about the Svalbard Global Seed Vault – a huge underground concrete structure dug into the side of a frozen mountain in a remote archipelago halfway between the Norwegian mainland and the North Pole – but is the facility really there to benefit mankind by protecting crop diversity, or does it serve a more sinister and secret purpose?

At first glance, the Svalbard seed vault (sometimes called the “Doomsday Vault”) seems like a very good idea. The facility’s stated aim is to “secure, for centuries, millions of seeds representing every important crop variety available in the world today.”

Embedded in solid rock beneath the permafrost, the Svalbard vault is capable of preserving seeds for hundreds of years without the need for electrical power to maintain a low temperature.

The Global Crop Diversity Trust (GCDT) is one of the three institutions that manage the vault.

From the GCDT website:

“The Seed Vault has the capacity to store 4.5 million varieties of crops. Each variety will contain on average 500 seeds, so a maximum of 2.5 billion seeds may be stored in the Vault.

“Currently, the Vault holds more than 860,000 samples, originating from almost every country in the world. … In fact, the Vault already holds the most diverse collection of food crop seeds in the world.”

The seed bank is designed to provide a safer, centralized alternative to existing seed banks located throughout the world, protecting crop diversity from natural and man-made threats:

“Worldwide, more than 1,700 genebanks hold collections of food crops for safekeeping, yet many of these are vulnerable, exposed not only to natural catastrophes and war, but also to avoidable disasters, such as lack of funding or poor management.”

So far, so good. It sounds like a noble and worthwhile undertaking, right?

What is the real purpose of the Svalbard seed vault?

One of the main reasons the project has its skeptics, is the fact that much of the funding for the seed vault came from biotech agriculture giants like Monsanto, Syngenta and others, as well as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation.

The heavy investment by Monsanto and Syngenta is enough to seriously raise some eyebrows, when one considers the fact that both of these companies are in the business of destroying crop biodiversity rather than preserving it.

The development of GMOs and seed patenting schemes by these companies has led to a narrowing of biodiversity and to the ownership of a large portion of the world’s seeds.

Ten corporations now own as much as 90 percent of all the seeds cultivated throughout the world. Monsanto, Syngenta and DuPont combined own more than 50 percent of these seed patents, and the further consolidation of agribusiness giants is leading to even greater monopolization of seed ownership.

So why are corporations infamous for destroying crop diversity so interested in simultaneously preserving it? That’s one of the mysteries surrounding the Svalbard seed bank that even the conspiracy theorists have a hard time explaining.

Is the seed bank designed to anticipate an engineered global depopulation event?

Another suspicious aspect of the project is the financial backing of Bill Gates and the Rockefellers, since these global elites are in favor of depopulation theory. Could it be that the Svalbard seed bank is a repository for seeds to be used in replanting the planet after an engineered global extinction event?

Considering the enormous financial support originating from such dubious entities, it’s no wonder that the Svalbard seed bank has raised suspicions among those who have little faith in the benevolence of biotech giants and global elites.

At any rate, it seems there may be some big secrets locked up with all those seeds in that lonely frozen fortress near the Arctic Sea.
